Desperate Housewives Diss Philippine-educated Doctors

In the Premiere of Desperate Housewives, Teri Hatcher's character 'Susan' consulted with a gynecologist, who then told her that she might be showing signs of menopause. Teri Hatcher made a remark about Filipino doctors. "Okay, before we go any further, can I check those diplomas? Coz I would just like to make sure they are not from some med school in the Philippines." To say that we, collectively as a people and now our professionals, have had obscene amounts of insults thrown at us is an understatement. Please enjoin me in saying ENOUGH ALREADY. Fight Anorexia

Saw this on the news tonight. Isabelle Carro, a 27-year old anorexic posing for the latest ad campaign of Nolita. Anorexia nervosa is actually a psychiatric disorder characterized by abnormal eating behavior, severe self-induced weight loss, and a specific psychopathology. It occurs in 0.2% to 1.3% of the general population. Participation in activities that promote thinness like modeling and athletics are associated with a higher incidence of anorexia nervosa. Female:male ratio is 9:1 Adolescence to young adulthood is the predominant age. Patients with moderate to sever anorexia have the following physical characteristics: Patient is ematiated and bundled in clothing. Skin is dry and has excessive growth of lanugo. Skin may also be yellow-tinged from carotenodermia. Brittle nails, thinning scalp hair are present. Bradycardia, hypotension, hypothermia, and bradypnea are common. Female fat distribution pattern is no longer evident. Axillary and pubic hair are preserved. Peripheral edema may be present. To be diagnosed as having anorexia nervosa, according to the DSM-IV-TR, a person must display: 1. Refusal to maintain body weight at or above a minimally normal weight for age and height (e.g., weight loss leading to maintenance of body weight less than 85% of that expected; or failure to make expected weight gain during period of growth, leading to body weight less than 85% of that expected). 2. Intense fear of gaining weight or becoming fat. 3. Disturbance in the way in which one's body weight or shape is experienced, undue influence of body weight or shape on self-evaluation, or denial of the seriousness of the current low body weight. 4. In postmenarcheal, premenopausal females (women who have had their first menstrual period but have not yet gone through menopause), amenorrhea (the absence of at least three consecutive menstrual cycles). 5. Or other eating related disorders.

Pirates of Kundiman

This morning, I got the text-invitation from Alvin de Aquino, the 2nd vice Grand Titan. Good day brods! On October 6, we will be celebrating our fraternity's 40th anniversary at Il Pirata Eastwood. We reserved the place 7pm-11pm only so we encourage everyone to be on time. The theme is: PIRATES. So be on your best costume because prizes will be given away for best in costume. P200 for active brods, P300 for alumni. You can bring family members. Just tell us ASAP. We will greatly appreciate it if you reply to this text to confirm your attendance so that we can make the necessary adjustments for the betterment of our anniversary party. See you on October 6! The University of Santo Tomas Salinggawi Dance Troupe's five-year reign ended after UP Pep garnered 92.66 in the 2007 Samsung UAAP Cheerdance Competition edging UST's 92.16.

Savoring Godskitchen

This is an event that I looked forward to. Yesterday after the clinic, I had to go to Mall of Asia to buy a black shirt and a black fedora hat that I will wear during the event. By 11pm, I was already there at One Esplanade for the Godskitchen Event. DJ Johnboy Lee started the party and everyone enjoyed "Put Your Hands Up for Detroit." Then Superstar DJ John Askew took the center stage and awed everyone with his techno-trance music. It was really a blast!
