v. sampalan

“…turn the other cheek…”
- somewhere in the new american bible

seventy times seven times is never enough
to forgive and forget what you did, brother.

how much were you rewarded for your treachery?
how easy to break were the ties that bind us?

for what smallest good you have done, i might yet forgive.
for what smallest truth you have shared, i might yet forget.

but that you have sinned against your own blood, i can not forgive.
but that you have betrayed the trust of your own, i can not forget.

at your deathbed, i might forgive.
at the end of time, i might forget.

brother, do not hold your breath.
