Post Bicol Thoughts
| Just arrived from Bicol specifically, from the town of Sipocot, Camarines Sur.
We left Manila at 10PM, Thursday and arrived there early in the morning. We went to the Parish Church for a hearty breakfast. Soon after, we went to the mission site. We were surrounded by multitudes of patients from the very young to the very old. Most of them were there for some free medicines or some free vitamins. But some really needed serious medical attention especially the Tetralogy of Fallot patient and the one with Rheumatic Heart Disease (by the way, I was assigned only at Pediatrics and Internal Medicine) Come dinnertime, we were brought to this house of one prominent figure in Sipocot and we were treated like kings. We ate until our rugae were distended. The next day, we again entertained lots of patients, interspersed with meals q2 (meaning every 2 hours) and then we went to Lolo's Bar in the evening for a night to remember. A night when the spirit of brotherhood was again rekindled. We ate, we danced and we enjoyed. Shortly after that revelry, we went to the seminary for our rest. We were given rooms for each one of us and slept the night away. The following day was set aside for rest and recreation. We went to the Ecovillage where we enjoyed nature at its finest. We enjoyed the water, the sun and each other's company. All in all, we didn't forget the true meaning of what this mission is all about. It's in commemorating our departed brod, Kuya Constantine Cu. His compassion for his fellow men led his family to continue the legacy that he once started - that is in the service of our less fortunate fellow men. |
