GI Conference

I presented a case at a G.I. Conference headed by Dr. Sollano. It was about Schistosomiasis. The patient presented with fever, hepatosplenomegaly, ascites and melena. I used hepatosplenomegaly as a pivot for my differentials. However, during the course of the discussion, Dr. Sollano pointed out that I should have used portal hypertension as my pivot to limit my differentials (he mentioned Budd-Chiari syndrome, idiopathic portal hypertension, portal vein thrombosis and the like - these are so specific.) My differentials included Laennec's cirrhosis, acute hepatitis, malaria, SLE and hematologic disorders.

But I wa able to present well, even something that wasn't placed in my slides. I just relied on my memory (like the life cycle of the Schistosome)
