MY LIGHTHOUSE

This poem was written for me during my eighteenth birthday.

My friend, he is my Lighthouse
The tower whose beam directs me to the shore.
And I, though I be a little sailboat
Drifting aimlessly at sea, mercilessly driven
By my lords, Wind and Wave
My Lighthouse is there to guide me
Amid the tumult of the Storm.
Long journeys I have had
Tides and maelstroms I have besieged
And always I have returned unharmed
Gently led by his beckoning beam
His light that pierces the dark shroud
That is the sea at night.
To my friend, I might merely be another sailboat
Just one of those vessels his light has saved
But to me, my friend is my Lighthouse
Whose light I depend on - and trust
Even in the darkness of the twilight hours...
